The practice form

Fill it in. Watch what moves.

A working facsimile of the return’s arithmetic. Enter a figure and the totals, the tax and the balance due follow immediately — which is the fastest way to understand why distributions matter so much.

Quick estimate

Three figures, one tax estimate.

A shortcut before the full form. Ordinary rates apply to all of it, and DNI does not cap the distribution — this is an estimate, not a return.

Distributions and the exemption

This is where tax leaves the return. Line 18 is capped by distributable net income on a real return — Schedule B does that work, and this practice form takes your figure as given.

Your Schedule B result — the income that was distributed or required to be distributed.

Consultant notes

  • This practice computation applies the ordinary rate schedule to all of taxable income. A real return runs long-term gains and qualified dividends through the capital gain worksheet first, so the actual tax is often lower.
